Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Doubts a Season 2 Return Likely, Holds Out Hope for Leia Spinoff Star Wars Series

One of the mysteries surrounding Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi prior to its release was the involvement of Vivien Lyra Blair, who played Leia Organa, a significant figure in Kenobi’s history. While fans eagerly await a potential Season 2 focusing on Ewan McGregor‘s Jedi Master, Blair herself has cast doubt on Leia’s return for such a project. Nevertheless, she expressed excitement about exploring Leia’s adventures in a spinoff. Although a spinoff may currently seem unlikely, the vast and expansive nature of the Star Wars galaxy means we can’t completely rule out such a possibility.

Blair shared her thoughts on the matter, stating, “Many people ask me if there will be a second season of Obi-Wan. I honestly believe it’s a strong possibility because Ewan is really eager to do another one. He’s very excited. Personally, I would love to be a part of it, but it’s challenging to see how Leia would fit into it. The fourth movie, A New Hope, implies that she doesn’t encounter Obi-Wan until she seeks his help. So, it’s a question of how I would fit into that. Instead, we’re hoping for a show centered around Leia on Alderaan. It would be great if something like that could happen.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Doubts a Season 2 Return Likely, Holds Out Hope for Leia Spinoff Star Wars Series

Blair’s portrayal of Leia was well-received in the series, and while fans understandably desire to see more of her character, it’s important to acknowledge that a Season 2 of Obi-Wan Kenobi might not be the ideal platform for it. The revelation that Leia and Obi-Wan knew each other before the events of A New Hope already puzzled audiences, as they were initially portrayed as strangers in the first film. Additionally, some fans expressed disappointment that Leia played such a prominent role, diverting attention from the title character. Consequently, a Season 2 would likely refocus primarily on Kenobi.

Whether it is Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy or director Deborah Chow, the creatives involved in the series have emphasized that the story was conceived as a limited event. As a result, the prospects of a second season already seem uncertain, making the likelihood of exploring young Leia’s character even more doubtful.

Stay tuned for further updates on the future of Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi.
