Kevin Feige Weighs in on Robert Downey Jr’s Eventual Retirement

Kevin Feige is currently one of the most talked about guys in the pop culture realm, especially with the MCU. He’s been doing interviews recently for Spider-Man: Homecoming and one of them with the Toronto Sun had him talking about the MCU and Robert Downey Jr.

When asked if he could picture the MCU without Downey Jr, Feige was happy that he doesn’t have to worry about that ‘soon’. However, soon means different things to different people.

Luckily with those next seven movies we just talked about – Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man & the Wasp, Captain Marvel, untitled Avengers 4 and Homecoming 2 – I don’t have to worry about that anytime soon.

He went on to say that there are films that exist before our time and that will continue to exist after we’re gone, and unless Downey Jr. is actually invincible and wants to play Iron Man for…all eternity…there will exist a time when he’s not in the MCU. Let’s just hope that time is far off, very far off.

I do think Iron Man, like Spider-Man, like Batman, like Superman, like James Bond has existed long before most of us were around and will exist long after most of us are gone. So it’s inevitable at some point, but certainly nothing I have to think about anytime soon.

While we do selfishly hope that he sticks around for a long time, we did hear that Downey Jr himself said recently that he wanted to exit the MCU while it was still going strong, and we understand that. He’s given almost a decade to the character that we know and love and while he’s synonymous with Tony Stark, he’s got a lot else going for him too.

For now, we’ll take what we can get, and what we can get is Spider-Man: Homecoming and the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.
