Sometimes you’re in the right place at the right time – or you say the right thing at the perfect moment, or your question strikes the eye of James Gunn and well, you get a ‘sort of answer’ about something in one of the most anticipated films of the MCU.
For a Facebook user, Jason Randall, that’s exactly what happened when he asked (after saying he knows it’s being addressed) how the Guardians and the Avengers would be able to communicate with one another.
‘I know this is a silly question, and I know sometimes we fans are nit-picky, and I love both of these movies, so I won’t even question it if it isn’t answered or thought about — Peter Quill has a translator implanted in his neck, so that’s how he can communicate with other species. In Infinity War, will anyone on Earth understand Drax, Gamora, Rocket, or even Groot in his natural language when he’s saying (‘I am Groot’)? I know you’re not directing, but I was curious if it would even be addressed?‘
James Gunn thought the question was a good one and gave it an answer – while vague – it’s still something.
‘They all have translators embedded. They all speak different languages. Not all languages (including Groot) are in the translators.‘
So, maybe he didn’t really tell us how they’ll understand one another – or at least not exactly – but we do know that there are translators embedded and that it makes sense that the Guardians have them, but the Avengers…not so much.
Looks like we’ll be waiting until we’re seated in the theater seeing Infinity War to find out how it’ll all come together, but we have all the faith in the world that it will. This movie is going to be huge, and with all the rumors floating around about who’s on set and the behind the scenes pictures that we’re trying to avoid but that pop up sometimes anyway, it’s going to be packed full of all of our favorites.
What are you most looking forward to in Infinity War? Let us know.
