We are just a few days away from the highly anticipated Deadpool 2 hitting theaters, a movie that took nearly ten years to get to the big screen. While at the film’s New York premiere this past Monday, producer Simon Kinberg spoke with Variety and gave an update on another long-awaited Marvel film that he’s working on – Gambit.

“We have a script that’s extraordinary, that we love, and that Channing [Tatum] loves. We’ve met with a bunch of directors in the last couple of weeks and we’re hoping to pick one and shoot the movie at maybe the end of the summer.”
Gambit has had quite the long journey to the big screen. Channing Tatum was first announced to play the titular character in early 2014 with the film being officially announced that November. In the summer of 2015 Rupert Wyatt was brought on board to direct but later had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. The Bourne Identity’s Doug Liman then stepped up to direct and announced that he would be pushing back the October 2016 release to an undetermined date. Liman ended up leaving the film in August 2016 and the release date was moved to June 2019.
These setbacks clearly haven’t stopped Kinberg and Tatum though as they are still moving forward as they are clearly getting closer to bringing this character to life!
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
