Harry Styles’ Stunning Video for ‘Sign of the Times’ is Here

After months upon months of speculation as to what was going on behind the scenes in the life of Harry Styles, he came out in full force with not just an upcoming film debut, but an entire album, a number 1 solo single, and now – a music video for said song.

Sign of the Times was the first song fans heard from Harry’s self-titled solo album, which is set to be released this Friday, and it captivated an audience around the world. It was different than some fans expected, but in a way that was very ‘Harry’. He had time, this time, to live with the music he was creating, to change it as he saw fit, and to put together an album that said what he wanted it to say.

In a recent interview, Harry said he didn’t want to edit himself for this album, which makes the anticipation even more real for long time fans of Harry to hear it. It’s a snapshot of who he is, and it’s a different look than we’ve seen before. However, before we get too excited about the album, we have to talk about the news of today. That news is Harry’s ‘Sign of the Times’ music video.

The video, much like Harry himself, is art. It’s an extension of the song as it helps to tell the story, but as Harry says, music is open to interpretation. Many people, upon first listen, thought the song may be a goodbye of sorts, and when Harry explained the meaning of the song, they learned that they were right. However, it was in a different way than expected.

‘Sign of the Times’ came from ‘This isn’t the first time we’ve been in a hard time, and it’s not going to be the last time’. The song is written from a point of view as if a mother was giving birth to a child and there’s a complication. The mother is told, ‘The child is fine, but you’re not going to make it.’ The mother has five minutes to tell the child, ‘Go forth and conquer.”

The video could represent a big moment in life, one you’d want to share with your mother, maybe his birthday and the anniversary of her passing. He appears to struggle with the idea of flight, being weightless, but he eventually gives in to it and we see him flying above gorgeous scenery. Side note – no green screen was used, so the beauty is truly natures.

While many of the close-ups of Harry’s face are somber, he smiles in some of the clips and appears to laugh as well. It’s a sign of life, we may be in dark times, hard times, but there’s still a reason to hope.

We love the video, and are excited for his album release on Friday and everything else that’s next to come.
