Gotham is heading into its final season on FOX, and although fans have known that we’d be getting closer to acknowledging the presence of the legendary Batman, now we know that the word will actually be uttered.

David Mazouz spoke with TV Insider recently and had this to say:

“That’s kind of the idea of the show. The Batman universe [is] 80 years old. It’s so rich and there’re so many iconic symbols and iconic characters, obviously, and the point of Gotham is to show how all these things came to be. And throughout the show we’ve been having little teases of these iconic things but now, in Season Five, we really get to show them and show their full force and show them in their entirety and not have to tease them anymore but actually say the words ‘Batman.’

The series began with Jim Gordon, and explored the relationship of him an orphaned child when his parents died. His name was Bruce Wayne. As the show progressed, it got closer and closer to revealing his true destiny, in which he eventually becomes our favorite caped and bat-eared crusader.

After years of Bruce Wayne growing into his destined form, fans of Gotham can expect to get the full satisfaction of seeing Batman come to life, and hearing his name. Gotham star David Mzaouz recently told Screenrant, “He’s going to become what he needs to become”.

We can also expect more scenes that include Bruce Wayne, The Penguin and The Riddler. Mazouz revealed to EW that he’d love to close out with more scenes with them, since they haven’t really gotten to do a whole lot together.

Penguin I’ve had two scenes with…two or three, and they’ve been good, but you know, I would love a good arc with him. Nygma, I had one scene with and it was like through a glass so like, it doesn’t count.”

Season 5 of Gotham is due out on FOX in 2019. Longtime Gotham viewers, are you ready to see Bruce Wayne make his complete transformation?
