With just 12 days to go until the final season of Game of Thrones, emotions are certainly running high. It seems to be a mixture of excitement, dread and sadness, which sounds like every Game of Thrones episode. First you’re excited for a new episode, then they go and do something like holding the door or ruining a wedding, and then you’re left in a puddle of tears waiting for the next episode. Rinse and repeat.
Despite there being only 6 episode remaining, fans can expect one last trick from David Benioff and D.B. Weiss as we wave goodbye to the world of Westeros.
On the 26th May, one week after the finale, HBO will be airing a feature-length documentary directed by Jeanie Finlay and produced by the minds behind Game of Thrones, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
Game of Thrones: The Last Watch will be a 2 hour documentary that dives into the production of Game of Thrones and what it was like tackling such a big project. Here is the official description of the documentary.
Made with unprecedented access, GAME OF THRONES: THE LAST WATCH is an up-close and personal report from the trenches of production, following the crew and the cast as they contend with extreme weather, punishing deadlines and an ever-excited fandom hungry for spoilers.
Much more than a “making of” documentary, this is a funny, heartbreaking story, told with wit and intimacy, about the bittersweet pleasures of what it means to create a world — and then have to say goodbye to it.
As a massive Game of Thrones fan who even dared to watch it with his parents, I am incredibly excited to see what this documentary has to offer. Not only will we get to see what the journey meant for our favourite cast members, but we will also be able to see how the show was done. No show has been able to top the spectacular battles of Westeros so it would be really interesting to see how The Battle of the Bastards or The Battle of Winterfell was filmed- especially when you consider that The Battle of Winterfell may be the biggest fight on TV.
The first episode of Season 8 airs on the 14th April.
