Hollywood and movie fans alike have been reeling since the untimely death of Carrie Fisher on December 27. The actress, best known for her role as Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise, passed away after suffering a heart attack at the age of 60. Following her passing, the Internet lit up with tributes to the actress and her iconic Leia role. Posts praising her work, many including fan artwork, have made the rounds. Now, a fan is attempting to honor her memory by creating a petition for Disney to crown Fisher’s character as an official Disney princess.

Cody Christensen created a petition on that is urging Disney to make Leia part of their princess lineup. The petition has received over 40,000 signatures in less than a week. Christensen writes in the petition description, “After the tragic loss of Carrie Fisher, we feel that it is only fitting for Disney to do away with the rule that an official Disney princess must be animated and make Leia a full-fledged princess. This would be a wonderful way to remember Carrie and a welcoming to one of Disney’s new properties that is beloved by millions.”

Christensen also requests that the Walt Disney Corporation hold a full ceremony that will induct Leia into the company of official princesses including Cinderella and Snow White. He states that Princess Leia is a strong role model for kids and should be recognized as a result. Not every female lead in a Disney movie is officially recognized as a Disney princess, and the designations began in 2000, according to CBS. The Disney Corporation, including CEO Bob Iger, have yet to respond to Christensen’s requests.
