MGM is heading back to work and hoping to breathe new life into another 1980s classic film. During Wednesday’s NewFronts West, Vudu (Walmart’s streaming service platform) announced its plans to revive the 1983 classic film as a digital series in conjunction with new partners MGM. The streaming service had announced its partnership with MGM studios just a few days before NewFronts.

According to Variety, Vudu is targeting an audience of parents in today’s society as they look to capitalize on the nostalgia which surrounds the film, Mr. Mom. The thought is that parents today hold the films of their childhood near and dear to their hearts with an overwhelming urge to share that content with their own children.

Julian Franco, head of AVOD content and advertising at Vudu said, “As parents, we want to share with kids the TV shows and movies that we grew up with. They made us feel something. The reality is we want our kids to feel the same thing too.” Franco continued, “We thought it would be a good first step for us. We’re going to reboot it. IT’s an American classic. Anybody that remembers it loves it.”

The original 1983 film, Mr. Mom, starred Michael Keaton as a father of three children who finds himself in a new role as a stay-at-home dad when his wife (played by Teri Garr) returns to the workforce. The film was written by film 80s icon John Hughes.

Variety reports that the digital series would be a sequel of sorts to the film rather than a remake. The series would follow the life of baby Megan from the film, now all grown up, as she chooses to head back to work and her husband stays home with their children.
