Cher delivered a truly timeless performance on Sunday night at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards. The legendary singer/actress was on hand to receive the Billboard Icon Award and, prior to her acceptance of the honor, took the stage and showed everyone, first hand, what it means to be a true music icon.
Turning 71 years old the day prior, Cher proved age is just a number as she did not hold anything back when she hit the stage. Marking her first performance at an awards show in 15 years, she kicked off her mini set with her 1999 mega hit Believe. Clad in a sheer, sparkling string bikini and one of her signature headpieces, Cher brought the entire audience to their feet. The entire arena was rocking right along with Cher as she paraded around on stage in ridiculously high heels in front of a backdrop of lasers and lights.
When she concluded her song, the audience remained standing for a brief interlude during which a video of career highlights was shown. At the conclusion of the video, however, Cher appeared once again and in one of her most iconic costumes. This time, wearing her famous black see-through leotard, leather jacket and lion mane wig, she performed her 1989 classic hit If I Could Turn Back Time.
She looked incredible. She sounded amazing and, when she delivered her acceptance speech after receiving her award, she did so with humility, appreciation and humor. During her speech, Cher commented on her monumental career by saying:
“I’ve been doing it for 53 years. This is not an applause thing. I’m 71 yesterday,” the singer said as the audience cheered. “Yes. And I can do a five-minute plank, just saying.”
Keep on killin’ it, Cher! Check out her truly iconic performance below:
