It’s true! Mighty Ducks may be headed to TV! The Hollywood Reporter confirmed today that ABC Signature Studios is developing a series based on the film.
Mighty Ducks was first released in 1992, and focused on a young team of hockey players and their trials and tribulations as the Ducks. 2 films followed the first, D2: The Mighty Ducks and D3: The Mighty Ducks.
The screenwriter of the original films Steven Brill and producer Jordan Kerner approached ABC Signature’s Tracy Underwood, who put the series into motion. Brill is apparently writing the script for this project as well.
What don’t we know? Well, A lot.
-Where the series will stand. whether it will be a sequel, prequel or revamp.
-Casting. We also don’t know if the original trilogy’s Emilio Estevez is attached.
-Network. They say their options are open to whether they pitch to a cable network or streaming service. Don’t forget Disney is also launching its own streaming service which they will put all Marvel and Star Wars content as well.
