‘Throwback Thursday’: Transformers, the Animated TV Series! (1980)
Transformers was a half-hour animated television series that originally aired from September 17, 1984 to November 11, 1987. It was the first official series in the franchise, based off of Hasbro’s Transformers action figure line. The series depicts a war between robot enemies Autobots and Decepticons. Autobots aka the ‘Good Guys’ being led by Optimus Prime (voiced by Peter Cullen), and the Decepticons aka the ‘Bad Guys’ being led by Megatron (voiced by Frank Welker).
These aren’t any ordinary robots though! These guys have the ability to turn into types of vehicles!
The series is also popularly referred to as “Generation 1”, a term originally coined by fans in response to the re-branding of the franchise when “Generation 2” was released in 1992.
