‘The Walking Dead’ Midseason 8 Premiere Episode Gets an Extended Runtime

Spoiler Alert! The following contains spoilers from season 8 of The Walking Dead.

'The Walking Dead' Midseason 8 Premiere Episode Gets an Extended Runtime

There’s no doubt that The Walking Dead midseason 8 premiere will be one of the biggest episodes in the history of the series.  With the impending death of Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) looming, it only seems fitting that the midseason premiere would get the supersized treatment.

The premiere episode airing on February 25th will be extended from the show’s normal 60-minute runtime to a whopping 82 minutes!

Fans (and cast members alike) have been in an emotional uproar since the midseason finale revealed that Carl was bitten by a walker earlier in the season and had been hiding his injury.  Because the location of the bite is on the side of his torso, there’s simply no coming back from this.

Carl’s ultimate fate will play out in the midseason premiere episode and, according to director Greg Nicotero, the episode will hopefully bring peace to upset fans.  He said:

“It’s a beautiful episode and the people that clearly are upset about losing Carl and questioning where the show goes without Carl — I really do believe that a lot of people will put those feelings aside when they watch this episode because they’re really going to get an opportunity to make some peace with it.”

The Walking Dead was recently renewed for a 9th season at AMC with a brand new showrunner Angela Kang at the helm.  The series will return for the second half of season 8 starting on February 25th at 9 PM EST on AMC.
