SDCC: Ryan Murphy Reveals the AHS Season 7 Official Title as ‘American Horror Story: Cult’

Finally, the moment we have been waiting months for has come and all has been revealed! American Horror Story‘s 7th season title officially is, American Horror Story: CULT!  The new season will be premiering on FX on September 5, 2017.

Co-creator and horror mastermind Ryan Murphy revealed the news himself at the San Diego Comic-Con panel and via his social media pages on Thursday night (or is it early Friday morning?).   Murphy continued to tease right up until seemingly the last second when, one hour before making the announcement, he posted the following on Twitter:

Before finally, letting the cat out of the bag:

Over the past several months, Murphy has been teasing fans on his various social media pages with creepy clues and casting announcements.  So far, we have seen a pretty creepy potential new monster, a “red, white and blue clue” showing someone (most likely Evan Peters) with blue dyed hair, a totally new look for star Billie Lourd, his latest casting announcement that Colton Haynes would be joining the American Horror Story family, a terrifying ambidextrous monster, an announcement that Twisty the Clown, one of the most feared characters from American Horror Story: Freakshow, would be returning, a super creepy trypophobia nightmare photo and, on Monday, Murphy teased his final clue, leaving the internet abuzz before the big title reveal.

After revealing the title, Murphy continued to answer fan questions via Twitter.  Frances Conroy and Mare Winningham will return this season, along with a few others yet to be named.  Murphy, who stated that this season is Evan Peters’ heaviest one yet, also revealed character names.  Peters’ character will be named Kai while Sarah Paulson’s character will be named Ally.  The season will take place over the course of 11 episodes and the location of the story will be set in Michigan.  As an added bonus, Murphy promised a terrifying trailer dropping on Friday!

Along with the news, FX also dropped a new website and video, featuring a ridiculously creepy group of clowns revealing the title. Check it out:

Via the website, you can sign up for initiation into the clown cult and, it would appear that each week, you will have to do different tasks in order to unlock a new level.  Where is this all leading?  We’re still not sure!

Murphy had previously confirmed, season 7 of American Horror Story will be set to focus on the most recent Presidential election and will show a version of President Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.  The new season is set to take place immediately following the 2017 election night.  In addition to Peter, Lourd and Haynes, additional casting will include American Horror Story alum Sarah Paulson and newcomers Billy on the Street host Billy Eichner and HBO Girls star Lena Dunham.
