PlayStation Classic Receives a Large Price Cut

Oh PlayStation Classic, you had so much potential, but you squandered it. Yes, you have a few good games, but there are so many that were left out of the collection. The Nintendo Classic and SNES Classic succeeded due to their willingness to allow their most popular franchises onto their systems. But you – you got greedy – and you left off nearly every game that fans would have asked for.

It’s a crime really, because the PlayStation is generally regarded as having one of the best video game libraries: Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Solid, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Final Fantasy, Twisted Metal, Jet Moto, Tomba, Castlevania, Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Legacy of Kain, Parasite Eve – I could go on, but you get it. Nearly all these classics were left off of the system. Or, in a strange turn of events, the one game out of the series you wouldn’t expect on the system (See: Twisted Metal 1 instead of 2) was included instead.

We can only assume that the major franchises were left off due to recent remastered editions and Sony wanting to not harm their sales numbers. Sadly, all that choice did was doom the PlayStation Classic. Fans of Spyro, Resident Evil 2 and Crash Bandicoot would have bought the remastered editions anyway – and still would have played the original versions on the Classic.

That said, the PlayStation Classic does have a few good games on it and for a cheaper price, may be worth the purchase. Metal Gear Solid is a classic, as well as Resident Evil. Final Fantasy VII has been re-released so many times I’ve lost count but there’s a reason for the RPG’s enduring legacy. Syphon Filter may not have aged particularly well but is regarded as a classic to many gamers.

For $100 the price was a bit steep for most consumers, especially since both the Nintendo Classic and the SNES Classic were cheaper (at $60.00 and $80.00, respectively), but now the PlayStation Classic seems to have received a permanent price drop of $40.00, lowering the MSRP to $60.00.

What’s even better is the Target Cartwheel App currently has a coupon for 40% off, which lowers the price of a new PlayStation Classic to only $36.00! This coupon is only good for two more days (Ending on December 30th, 2018) so if you don’t have the Target App you might want to hurry and check It out.

The console also comes with two controllers, although the controllers do not have the analog sticks, which is an odd design choice despite the games included. If you were on the fence about purchasing the PlayStation Classic, now may be the best time to jump off!

Is the PlayStation Classic worth purchasing at $60.00 or is that still too expensive? Are you happy with the games included or would you have included other games? Let us know in the comments below!
