Mark Hamill Hasn’t Shot His Scenes for ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ Yet

New developments shed light on Star Wars: Episode IX filming revelations.

Many characters will be returning for Star Wars: Episode IX including the main cast Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Kelly Marie Tran, and John Boyega. Mark Hamill is also returning to reprise the role of Luke. Fans were happy to hear that Billy Dee Williams and Carrie Fisher will appear as Lando Calrissian and Leia (via archival footage) as well. It’s looking more and more like these appearances won’t be featured as heavily as fans are hoping.

EW published an interview with Hamill mainly to talk about his new project, Knightfall. In the interview, which likely took place in the last two weeks, Hamilly says he hasn’t filmed for the Star Wars film yet.

“I still have to go over and do [Episode IX]. Most of the parts I have coming up beside Star Wars are voiceover.

Episode IX began filming months ago, and Inverse.com is reporting that based on their contacts and set visits, they know most of the cast is filming desert planet action in Jordan. Greg Gunberg, who plays Snap Wexley in the film is finished filming his scenes. He has a relatively small role, and filmed mainly at Pinewood Studios in London. The film is in its final stages of filming now, so really his scenes must be either very minimal, or mainly a ghostly overlay.

As far as the late Carrie Fisher’s scenes go, we know her role will involve whatever archival footage they can insert and revamp. Rumors have it that new cast member Naomi Ackie will play Lando’s secret daughter, so there;s his connection and appearance in it. So basically what people are getting at is that the new characters will likely be much more heavily featured than the old.

The good thing is, we can look forward to scenes featuring Matt Smith, Kerri Russell, Richard E. Grant and Ackie in the about 2 hour and 15 minute film. Rey, Finn, Rose Kylo Ren and Poe also have to take up a good chunk of it. The film, after all, will star Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver in the forefront.

What we know for sure is that this will be a forever farewell to Luke Leia and Lando.

Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20, 2019.
