‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’ Musical Film Sequel in the Works!

Mamma Mia! Here we go again!  Literally!  Get ready musical theater fans!  Ten years after the original 2008 film hit theaters, we are finally getting a sequel!

The original 2008 film was an adaptation of the 1999 stage musical which tells the story of Donna and her daughter Sophie.  Sophie is about to get married and she wants her father to walk her down the aisle.  The only problem is, she’s not sure who her biological father is!  It’s one of three possible men so, she invites all three to her wedding, much to the surprise of her mother and, craziness ensues.  The music within the production is made up of the classic tunes from the 1970’s Swedish pop group, ABBA.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, will be released in theaters next summer.  According to a release from Universal, much of the original cast from the 2008 film will be returning for the sequel including Meryl Streep (Donna), Amanda Seyfried (Sophie), Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Stellar Skarsgard (Sophie’s three potential fathers) as well as some new casting additions.

The sequel will follow the same musical theme and will also feature music from the group ABBA which was not included in the first musical.  Additionally, some ABBA favorites from the first film will be reprised as well.

Ol Parker (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) has signed on to write and direct the film.  There is no word yet on expected plot or synopsis but, we sure do hope this sequel is just as much fun as the first adaptation!

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! will dance and jive its way into theaters on July 20, 2018.
