Gwendoline Christie says Tormund Still Finds Ways to Creep Brienne Out Between Takes

A lot of important things happened in season 6 of Game of Thrones. There was the Battle of the Bastards, Cersei blowing up the Great Sept of Baelor and Jon and Sansa reuniting, but there was one story that stood above the rest and I think you know exactly what moment I’m talking about (even if the article title already gave it away).
That’s right, it was the start of Brienne and Tormunds bizarrely one-sided yet totally ship-worthy relationship! It was badass wildling meets badass Lady and it was a match we didn’t even know we wanted at first, but you can bet we were here for it now.
Ta hell with Daenarys and Jon I want Tormund and Brienne.#GameOfThrones

My dude Tormund really has seen some shit. Please let him get his happy ending with giant Brienne babies. He deserves it #GameOfThrones

Brienne and Tormund. It’s not the love story we expected, but it’s the love story we needed. #gameofthrones #thronesyall

Even though we still don’t know what Tormund’s fate is or if Jamie’s venture to Winterfell will have any romantic arc, we have recently learned one thing – Tormund still loves Brienne off-screen. While chatting with Seth Myers recently, Gwendoline Christie, who plays Brienne, was able to give Tormund/Brienne shippers a nice little nugget of information to hold them over until season 8.
Turns out that Kristofer Hivju doesn’t stop being Tormund after the director says ‘cut’.
“He likes to continue being in character even off set. He will start chewing a sandwich wildly at me, start masticating wildly at me, really kind of making love to that sandwich as he eyeballs me. So it’s strong. Eyes like lasers pouring right in,” Christie said.
“No one told me that this was gonna happen. In the script it simply said, ‘Tormund gives Brienne a look.’ I was not expecting the power, the magnitude, of intense sexual intention to pour out of a man’s eyes and cover me,” she continued.
The scene that she’s talking about is pictured in the two gifs above. That’s some brilliant bread eating by Kristofer Hivju if I do say so myself. Christie wasn’t the only one who immediately noticed the stare that sparked a hilarious sexual tension though, Co-Showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff did too.
“It’s great because there was no dialogue written for that, or major stage direction, there was just a line like, ‘He stares at Brienne because he’s never seen a woman like that before,’ Beinoff said in an interview with EW when speaking of their first interaction.
“It’s not something you could ever write. It’s just this moment where this guy is creeping out on her and he smiles in a way that makes her very uncomfortable and she just looks away. I saw it 150 times and every time it made me laugh; it’s purely the two of them.” Weiss added.
So, all we need now is for Tormund to be alive and well and for him to get back to Winterfell stat and see where things go with Brienne. All he needs to do is woo her a little more to get her on board because we already know where he stands at this point.

Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
