Chris Cornell’s wife Shares Emotional Letter in Honor of her Husband

Chris Cornell’s life ended tragically on May 17th and the world is still trying to make sense of his death. Ruled a suicide; fans, friends, and family have been at a loss for words trying to understand and explain what happened. The truth of the matter is, no words make losing a power like Chris any easier, but sometimes they help the living.

Some fans have penned letters to Chris and blog posts about the situation; a few of which have gone viral. Chris was the one who was supposed to have a different end. He struggled, but he fought hard to stay alive, he didn’t die tragically at a young age in the throws of addiction. He passed away after seemingly having reached a point of happiness.

His family says Chris was happy when he died. His wife says that he took an extra Ativan the night that he passed, and he was slurring his words a bit, she was worried about him and when he was checked on not long after their final phone call, his body was found. He wasn’t himself when he passed, this wasn’t the fate that he wanted.

Dealing with that loss has weighed heavily on her heart and today, she shared a letter with Billboard to Chris. The letter will bring tears to your eyes, but also a healing to the hearts of anyone who has ever loved someone at all, but especially someone who has struggled.

To My Sweet Christopher,

You were the best father, husband, and son-in-law. Your patience, empathy, and love always showed through.

You had always said I saved you, that you wouldn’t be alive if it were not for me. My heart gleamed to see you happy, living and motivated. Excited for life. Doing everything you could to give back. We had the time of our lives in the last decade and I’m sorry, my sweet love, that I did not see what happened to you that night. I’m sorry you were alone, and I know that was not you, my sweet Christopher. Your children know that too, so you can rest in peace.

I’m broken, but I will stand up for you and I will take care of our beautiful babies. I will think of you every minute of every day and I will fight for you. You were right when you said we are soulmates. It has been said that paths that have crossed will cross again, and I know that you will come find me, and I will be here waiting.

I love you more than anyone has ever loved anyone in the history of loving and more than anyone ever will.

Always and forever,
Your Vicky

We’re sending our love and support to Vicky and her family and all of those who knew Chris. His legacy will live on through his music and his spirit.
