A Live-Action Sitcom Version of ‘The Jetsons’ is Coming to ABC

Welcome to the future!  Where all the great stuff that we loved at kids is getting rebooted!

On Thursday, we learned that there will be a live-action adaptation of the classic 1962 cartoon series The Jetsons coming to ABC.  The network has ordered a pilot of the series which means, more than likely, it will also go to series.

This version of The Jetsons will be written by Gary Janetti who will also act as an executive producer.  Janetti has experience in both sitcoms and animated series as he has worked on both Will & Grace and Family Guy so, it’s pretty safe to say the development of this new venture is experienced hands.  Robert Zebecks and Jack Rapke will also executive produce along with Jackie Levine who will be a co-executive producer.  Warner Bros. Television, Compari Entertainment, and Nickleby, Inc are all attached to the production as well.

There is not a whole lot of details released just yet but, we do know that the new series will be based on the original Jetsons series and will be set 100 years into the future.  Of course, no reboot would be complete without some modern updates and upgrades.  As such, everyone’s favorite family including George Jetson, his boy Elroy, daughter Judy, Jane his wife and of course Astro will all be portrayed with a modern day twist.

Admittedly, when we hear the word “reboot,” our first gut reaction is usually one of hesitation and then shortly after asking, “why?”  However, with The Jetsons, it just seems like it’s a perfect time for some good, futuristic fun.  Not to mention, if the series were to take on the epic episodes where The Jetsons met The Flintstones, we would fall head over heels for this show!
