Wonder Woman’s Future Mapped Out By Patty Jenkins

Wonder Woman 1984 is out very soon and after that trailer last week I think many of us are pumped.  We are itching to see our favourite Amazonian warrior on the big screen again.

Despite the anticipated sequel coming out in June 2020, it seems as though the cogs are already turning in relation to Wonder Woman’s future.

That’s right, director Patty Jenkins is already looking beyond the sequel and into the future. So what can we expect?

Well, during CCXP in São Paulo, both Jenkins and Gal Gadot revealed that Wonder Woman 3 and a spin-off film have already been “mapped out”.

Talking to both Collider and Deadline, the pair revealed:

“We actually already know the whole story to [Wonder Woman 3] and then some because there is an Amazon [spin-off] movie, as well, and so we already have it all mapped out,”

A spin-off focusing on the Amazonian Warriors is a fantastic idea. This could be our opportunity to dive deeper into the mythology of Themyscira. However, there is a slight twist. Jenkins also added this:

“It’s just a matter of will we change our minds and when.”

While it appears that there are indeed ideas ready for future films, we may just have to wait… and wait. Considering that we are getting Shazam 2 and The Flash in 2022, we could be waiting until 2024-2026.

Although, I think it is safe to say that fans will happily wait. I certainly will.

According to Jenkins, the decision to wait things out is due to multiple contributing factions:

“It’s been great doing these two movies back to back, but I think it’s important to give it a little rest in between — and I like doing other things in between. And Gal has other things to do. I never want to make decisions too far in advance. We have to see if we both feel like making the movie we think we want to make when the moment comes.”

When you consider the rocky journey of the DC movies, because, let’s face it, the DC movies have had a very turbulent track history, waiting might be the best decision.

It might also be worth waiting to see how audiences respond to the sequel. When Aquaman came out, it didn’t take long for rumors of a sequel to circulate after its successful run.

Wonder Woman 1984 sees the return of Gadot as Diana and Chris Pine as Steve Trevor- although his return is still baffling. Kristen Wiig will also star as Wonder Woman’s fearsome enemy, Cheetah alongside Pedro Pascal who will be playing Maxwell Lord.

What would you like to see in Wonder Woman 3? Personally, I would love to see a story that takes place in the present day rather than another flashback story. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
