When Tom Holland was cast as Spider-Man, Marvel made one of the best decisions of their history in film. He is exactly the actor to bring ‘this’ Spider-Man and this story line to life. Everyone who has screened the film early has been blown away by it, (we saw it early too, you can read about it here) some are calling it Marvel’s best, and Tom’s co-workers are praising him as well.
‘Tom demonstrated a really natural internal conflict. It’s really hard to get down to the real meat and potatoes of what makes someone tick. And to do that while screen testing for the relaunch for Marvel’s most beloved? We all noticed.’
Robert also spoke about how Tom’s gymnast days made the role a bit easier to take on. He was already agile so all ‘that stuff’ is genuinely Tom.
‘Yeah, he does all that stuff. The problem with doing a backflip is that they keep asking you to do backflips in less and less friendly environments…like with a blinding mask on in a crowd of people.‘
He also spoke about Tom’s work so far, for what keeps him grounded. He’s not totally enchanted with the bright lights of Hollywood and the business.
‘Tom’s experienced enough to be able to enjoy all the stuff that’s about to happen to him…I knew him when.’
Getting such high praise from someone like Robert must feel pretty incredible, and even better than that is how deserved the credit is. He’s not just been credited because he’s taking on a superhero role, he’s being credited because he’s bringing a new life to Spider-Man and it’s a game changer.
‘…but I knew him’
