‘Supergirl’ Recap ‘Man of Steel’

Supergirl Recap ‘Man of Steel’

Thanks for Jensen’s betrayal, the Graves siblings escape the DEO and take some of Lena’s technology with them. They use the diffuser to disperse Kryptonite into the atmosphere, poisoning Kara. Luckily, J’onn flies to her rescue, stopping her plummet to the Earth. At the DEO, they try to figure out how to save her, but there is too much Kryptonite in her system and the atmosphere. They call in Lena to help and she uses a special suit to shield Kara from the toxins in the atmosphere. Basically, they just have to wait it out.

The focus of the episode is on the man behind the metal mask, Ben Lockwood. Ben is a professor who believes in treating everyone equally, but as his father’s business falls to ruin because of alien metals and the increasing number of alien attacks, Ben’s view starts to shift. Ben starts preaching hate in his classes, which results in his termination. Then, his home is destroyed during the Daxamite invasion. The next year during Reign’s attack, Ben’s father is killed. Ben takes out all his anguish on an alien who once accidentally harmed him, killing the alien. Ben continues to speak his mind, drawing crowds in parks and passing out fliers. It is then that he is recruited by the Graves’. They present Ben with the armor and mask, and Agent Liberty is born.

This was a solid episode and I liked how the main cast all crossed paths with Ben in the past. It was interesting to see how the arrival of aliens impacted a human’s life. It was a different side of the story and I really liked how it was done. Ben went through a lot and he had every right to be angry, but he definitely went way over the top in how he expressed himself. Mercy and Otis found the perfect person to base their operation on. I’m interested to see where Ben’s story is going to go.

Next week’s episode is entitled ‘Ahisma.’
