Gladiator star Russell Crowe is in talks to join the cast of the Tom Cruise led reboot of The Mummy.

The Mummy is the next film in the Universal ‘Monsters’ shared cinematic universe. The story will follow Navy Seal Tyler Colt and his mission in the Iraqi desert to find a group of terrorists hiding out in a bunker. Sounds like my kind of movie!

Unlike the original Mummy trilogy starring Brendan Fraser that took place in the early 1920s, the new Mummy movie is taking the battle
to the present day. Sofia Boutella will play the films monster (more than likely a mummy), while Tom Cruise will play the Special Forces operative who finds himself battling against her. Annabelle Wallis and Jake Johnson have also been cast in the film. According to Deadline, Crowe will be playing a “Jekyll-like role,” referring to the character Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, from Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1886 novel.

The studio has a projected date for the film to be released on June 9, 2017.
