New Girl star Lamorne Morris has found his next project! Morris is joining Sony’s superhero action film Bloodshot which stars Vin Diesel. According to Deadline, Morris will be playing the role of Wilfred Wigans, a young scientist who eventually becomes Bloodshot’s (Diesel) unlikely ally.
Last year, Sony Pictures announced their plans to move forward with a five-film shared universe based on Bloodshot and another Valiant comic Harbinger. This could be the first film in that series. If Sony continues with their plans for a multi-film universe, Deadline also reports that Morris would be attached for multiple films.
Bloodshot is a former soldier who gains superpowers after being injected with cutting-edge experimental nanites by the mysterious Project Rising Spirit. He then begins rounding up superpowered outcasts known as “the harbingers.”
In addition to Morris and Diesel, the film also stars Eiza Gonzalez, Sam Heughan, Talulah Riley, Alex Hernandez, and Toby Kebbell. Oscar-nominated screenwriter Eric Heisserer (Arrival) has been tapped to write the screenplay which will be directed by Dave Wilson of Blur Studios. The film reunites Diesel with Fast and the Furious‘s Neal Moritz who is set to produce the film along with Dinesh Shamdasani from Valiant.
Morris is fresh off of the final season of Fox’s hit comedy New Girl. He played the role of Winston Bishop on the series for seven seasons with co-stars Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield and Hannah Simone.
