Kingsman: Director Plans Seven More Movies in Addition to a TV Series

Kingsman, mediocre Kingsman. It doesn’t quite have the same ring as Bond, James Bond.  However, you should get used to the ring of Kingsman, as it’s going to be around just as much as Bond.  So should we be excited?

Speaking to Deadline, Marv Group CEO Zygi Kamasa said that director Matthew Vaughn is planning “something like seven more Kingsman films” as part of the company’s expansion plans.  So far, there have only been two films, with just one of them actually being good.

The third film in the series, a prequel titled The King’s Man was pushed back to 2021 due to COVID. The film, stars Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Djimon Hounsou, Daniel Bruhl, and Rhys Ifans, and is currently set for February 26, 2021.

“We want to grow the business and the output,” Kamasa told the Winston Baker UK Finance Summit late last week. “We have a Kingsman TV series in the works and there are two-three other franchises that are being developed alongside the Kingsman world.”

The first film, which was the best of the first two, saw Gary “Eggsy” Unwin (Taron Egerton), whose late father secretly worked for a spy organization, lives in a South London housing estate and seems headed for a life behind bars. However, dapper agent Harry Hart (Colin Firth) recognizes potential in the youth and recruits him to be a trainee in the secret service. Meanwhile, villainous Richmond Valentine (Samuel L. Jackson) launches a diabolical plan to solve the problem of climate change via a worldwide killing spree.

The film was a more modern film style take on the secret agent genre, utilizing some gimmicky technology in shooting the film. Full of action and a bit of humor, the film was a hit with audiences.  The second film, however, fell flat.

Kingsman is now under the Disney banner and no one loves franchises more than Disney.  It will be curious to see if the third film actually arrives in theaters this February or if it somehow gets pushed onto Disney+.
