‘In the Dark’: Rich Sommer Replaces Austin Nichols in CW Drama
It looks like The CW’s midseason series In The Dark has undergone some changes. Deadline reports that Mad Men’s Rich Sommer will be stepping into the co-lead role for the series, replacing The Walking Dead alum Austin Nichols who originally filmed the part in the pilot.
In The Dark stars Perry Mattfeld, as a young blind woman named Murphy who is the only ‘witness’ to her drug-dealing friend, Tyson’s, murder. However, her statement and story are quickly dismissed by law-enforcement, which forces her to take matters into her own hands. On top of being a one-woman crime solver, she’s also trying to juggle her dating life and a terrible job at her parent’s company, Breaking Blind, a school for guide-dogs.
Sommer will be taking over the role of Dean, a cop put on the case after Murphy claims to have discovered Tyson’s body in an alley. Dean’s talents at solving crimes aren’t the only reason he’s put on the case though – his young daughter is also blind. In the Dark will be written by Corinne Kingsbury and directed by Michael Showalter. It is expected to have a midseason premiere on The CW.
TV fans may recognize Sommer from his role on AMC’s critically acclaimed series Mad Men as Harry Crane for seven seasons. He is currently recurring on the Netflix’s GLOW.
The CW has been on top of their original series game within the past couple of years thanks to the impressive Arrowverse, which includes Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and D.C’s Legends of Tomorrow as well as their most recent cult-hit, Riverdale, which is about to enter its third season. The network will also be premiering some new series this fall including Taye Digg’s football series All-American and a Vampire Diaries/Original spin-off called Legacies.
