Happy Birthday, Greg Nicotero!
That’s right! Our favorite special effects makeup creator and sometimes director of AMC’s The Walking Dead, Greg Nicotero is turning 55 today! He shares a birthday with co-Walking Dead family member Pollyanna McIntosh (Jadis).
Born in 1963, Greg got his first major job after learning the trade from veteran makeup effects artist Tom Savini on the George A. Romero film Day of the Dead in 1985 and the rest is horror history. While on set, he met Howard Berger. After relocating to Hollywood, Greg along with Berger and Robert Kurtzman formed the special effects studio called KNB EFX Group in 1988.
Nicotero has worked on countless film and television projects as a director, producer, actor and/or special effect creator. Besides The Walking Dead, a small fraction of productions he has worked on include Predator, Evil Dead II, Misery, Dances with Wolves, Army of Darkness, The People Under the Stairs, From Dusk Till Dawn, Scream, The Green Mile, House on Haunted Hill, Cabin Fever, both Kill Bill films, Sin City, Breaking Bad, Fear the Walking Dead, and Suicide Squad.
Greg currently continues to co-executive produce, supervise special effects makeup and occasionally direct episodes of The Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead is currently midway through the back half of its eighth season. Fear the Walking Dead will premiere its fourth season on April 15, 2018.
Let’s wish Greg an awesome birthday with many more to come!
