Disney has just released premiere dates for some of their upcoming most-anticipated films! Get ready to mark your calendars!
Indiana Jones 5:
At the end of June, news broke that the upcoming Indiana Jones 5 film was being delayed, yet again. The film which was originally supposed to hit theaters in 2019, was first pushed back to July 2020 before being delayed “by several months” yet again. With this most recent delay, we now know that Indiana Jones 5 is expected to be released on July 9, 2021.
The still-untitled Indiana Jones 5 will see the return of its titular character played once again by Harrison Ford, though rumors have been swirling that this might be Ford’s last hurrah as the iconic adventurer and archeologist. Steven Spielberg is on board to direct with Jonathan Kasdan reportedly set to write the script for the film.
While fans will have to wait a little longer for the film’s release, hopefully, this is the last delay for Indiana Jones 5.
The Jungle Cruise:
Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt are set to star in the live-action film based on the beloved Disney Parks ride, the Jungle Cruise. The Jungle Cruise ride first opened in Disneyland in 1955. Since then, the ride has become a Disney staple in its theme parks around the world. The Jungle Cruise ride offers a scenic boat tour of the most exotic and exciting rivers across Asia, Africa, and South America.
While details regarding the film are few and far between, we do know that Johnson and Blunt will be riding the Jungle Cruise movie to the box office on October 11, 2019.
Angelina Jolie is set to reprise her role as the Disney villain Maleficent along with Elle Fanning returning as Princess Aurora in Maleficent 2. The sequel film just recently began production in late May and will be adding a new cast member into the mix this time around. Legendary actress Michelle Pfeiffer is joining the cast in the role of Queen Ingrith.
While not much else is known about the sequel film at this time, Disney announced Maleficent 2 will hit theaters on May 29, 2020.
Mary Poppins Returns:
Emily Blunt is at it again. She stars as Mary Poppins in the upcoming sequel film Mary Poppins Returns. The film will pick up several years after the original film’s events which starred Julie Andrews. In addition to Blunt, the film also stars Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack, a London lamplighter similar to the role Dick Van Dyke played in the original, Meryl Streep as Mary’s cousin Topsy, Angela Lansbury as the Balloon Lady, and Colin Firth as a banker named William Weatherall Wilkins.
Mary Poppins Returns has been bumped up a week from its originally scheduled premiere date. The film will now hit theaters on December 19, 2018.
