Coldplay Honors Chester Bennington with a Touching Tribute Performance of ‘Crawling’

In the weeks following the shocking death of Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington, countless memorials, remembrances, and tributes have been flooding the internet and social media.  Family, friends, fans and fellow musicians alike have all been coming together to honor the incomparable impact that Bennington made on the music industry.

On Tuesday night at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey, Coldplay performed a touching and emotional tribute to Bennington by covering one of Linkin Park’s songs Crawling.  Chris Martin, the lead singer of Coldplay, sat behind his piano and began to play.  Martin made it through the first line before having to stop, take a drink of water, and reset himself, wanting to get the version of the song just right in order to properly pay his respects.  When he started playing again, the entire version of the song consisted of just a piano and Martin’s vocals.  The stadium remained silent until the tribute ended and then it erupted with applause.  It was a truly magical and emotional moment.

Coldplay’s tribute had such an impact on the crowd that, apparently, friends of Bennington’s bandmate Mike Shinoda were in the crowd that night.  A friend texted a clip of the cover to Shinoda who sent out the following post via his Instagram account:

Thank you @coldplay 🙏🏽 It sounded beautiful.
