‘Bill and Ted Face the Music’: Update

It is not very often that you get news about an upcoming sequel that you really get excited for. Let’s face it, nowadays, it seems that there are too many sequels that don’t work, or too many reboots that leave you wondering if Hollywood has run out of ideas.

Well, this brings us to today’s topic, Bill and Ted Face the Music. Yes, a third installment of the Bill and Ted series is coming!

Entertainment Weekly announced in May that Bill and Ted Face the Music will reunite Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter in their roles as the fun-loving and bounteous Bill and Ted. They have taken audiences through history and to hell and back and will do it again.

While 2019 will bring us to the 30-year mark of when Bill and Ted took us on their first most excellent adventure, I just had heart palpitations realizing how old we all are getting.

There are many reasons I think this sequel can work. First and foremost, the synopsis really makes sense for third film. We find Bill and Ted as middle-aged dads who have yet to write that song that is supposed to save life as we know it. If you remember back to Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey, they did go into the future and come back married with babies.

Personally, seeing the reality that Bill and Ted currently live in would be all I need to believe that this third film could make sense.

The second ingredient to make a sequel to any movie so many years later is casting. If you don’t keep your original cast, it just isn’t going to work.

Have no fear, Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter will both be returning and according to MovieWeb.com, William Sadler is in talks to return to his role from Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey as Death. The only cast member who will not be able to film for the sequel but, could return through archived footage, is George Carlin as Rufus. He passed away in 2008.

So, we have the story and we have the cast. When does filming begin? Is there a release date? Director Ed Solomon answers-sort of.

It was also revealed on MovieWeb.com that production is slated to begin in February of 2019.

With all this additional information, I would think that a release date would probably be summer of 2020.

No matter when the release date is or when they get started filming, this is one sequel that my inner child is excited for. While both Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey had their inside adult humor as a nod to older audiences, the characters are pretty family friendly.  We can learn from them. The first movie can it is how I got my daughter to remember some of her historical figures for a test once.

This should be the sequel we have wanted for close to 30 years, and now it will reveal the fantastic world of Bill and Ted to new generations.
