While we may not be able to see anything new in the Arrowverse for the next few months, the writing teams are already hard at work!
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, EP Marc Guggenheim stated that this years 4-episode crossover is definitely something that we should be excited about. In fact, he and his fellow producers (Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg) are already planning which big threat our heroes would be facing!
“You know, believe it or not, we’ve had discussions about it. I think this is the earliest that we’ve ever had a discussion about our crossovers,” Guggenheim said. “In fact, next week Greg, Andrew and I are going to sit down and sort of have our first official meeting about it. But…stay tuned, if we end up doing what we’re talking about doing, it’s going to be pretty cool.”
While the crossover episode is ‘over the moon’ exciting, it is also quite challenging.
“Every year we feel the pressure and I do feel like each crossover has topped the previous one. Topping last year’s [crossover] is a high bar, if for no other reason than what do you do that is bigger than aliens?” reflected Guggenheim. “We got some, I think, very, very exciting ideas. I would say, very early on in the process in actually doing last year’s crossover, Greg said that ‘there’s probably no way to get bigger than aliens’.”
Guggenheim says that in order to make this year’s crossover more epic than it’s predecessor, ‘Invasion!’, they need to dial up the emotional stakes.
“The best way to make this year’s crossover especially epic is, if you can’t increase the bombast, increase the emotional stakes and the emotional pay-offs,” Guggenheim said. “A very oblique comment on where our heads are at for this season.”
