Warner Bros. and DC’s Aquaman has made a massive splash at the box office in its first week in theaters.
On Christmas Day alone, the film earned $22 million making it the sixth biggest box office earner on Christmas Day behind three Star Wars films (The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, Rogue One), Avatar and Sherlock Holmes. Not only did the film have a huge Christmas, but that $22 million earned the film a total of $105 million domestically and over $500 million worldwide according to Variety. Aquaman easily outearned its competition with Mary Poppins Returns earning $11.6 million and Bumblebee earning $8.9 million.

Jason Momoa reprises his role in the DC Universe as Arthur Curry (aka. Aquaman, half-human, half-Atlantean and King of the Seven Seas, ruler of Atlantis). The film also stars Amber Heard (as Mera), Patrick Wilson (as the villainous Orm/Ocean Master), Temuera Morrison (as Tom Curry), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (as Black Manta), Nicole Kidman (as Queen Atlanna), Dolph Lundgren (as King Nereus) and Oscar-nominee Willem Dafoe (as Nuidis Vulko).
James Wan, best known for his background in the horror genre, particularly for his work on The Conjuring and Insidious films, is directing the film. This is Wan’s first dip into the superhero world. He also directed Furious 7which ended up being the top grossing film of the Fast and Furious franchise. Peter Safran is producing along with Zack and Deborah Snyder, Rob Cowan, Jon Berg and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.
