Yvette Nicole Brown on SDCC Hosting Gig: “I am filling in for a friend”

On Tuesday, it was announced that Community star and The Walking Dead superfan Yvette Nicole Brown would be stepping in for Chris Hardwick as moderator of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead’s San Diego Comic-Con Hall H panels. In a tweet on Wednesday, Brown sets the record straight saying she’s not trying to swoop in on Hardwick’s longtime hosting gig. Instead, she’s simply filling in for a friend.

Brown tweeted, “I will say this once. I am filling in for a friend, which I have done before. I am not jockeying for a job. I have enough of my own. It is my prayer that God’s Will is done in the midst of this process & that everyone is okay. My character is known & sound. Nothing has changed.”

Hardwick stepped down from his hosting responsibilities last month after the publication of an essay penned by his ex-girlfriend Chloe Dykstra insinuated accusations of emotional and sexual abuse. Hardwick’s talk show Talking with Chris Hardwick was also pulled from AMC’s scheduling for the time being while the network conducts a full investigation. AMC released a statement saying, “We have had a positive working relationship with Chris Hardwick for many years. We take the troubling allegations that surfaced yesterday very seriously.” Hardwick has vehemently denied Dykstra’s claims.

When news first broke that Hardwick was stepping down from moderating the SDCC panels, fans immediately began suggesting Brown as the perfect replacement for the gig. It’s important to point out, as Brown mentions in her tweet, her hosting the panels at San Diego Comic-Con in no way links her to replacing Hardwick on his AMC shows. No official decision has been made at this time by the network in regards to continued hosting responsibilities.

In addition to Executive Produces Gale Anne Hurd, Robert Kirkman and TWD season 9 showrunner Angela Kang, the panels are expected to include The Walking Dead cast members Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Norman Reedus, and  Fear The Walking Dead’s Kim Dickens, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Colman Domingo and Lennie James.

Both The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead panels will take place on July 20th starting at 11:15 am PST.
