Who Might Direct the Next ‘Avengers’ Films Now That the Russos Have Left?

I’m not sure if Kevin Feige informed Joe and Anthony Russo before the weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con that Marvel’s The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars teases were on their way, because Joe and Anthony Russo have never been bashful about shouting from the rooftops that Secret Wars is their favorite comic book arc ever, and one they’d love to direct for Marvel Studios.
It’s rather amusing that the Russos have been attempting to deflect Secret Wars questions throughout their press appearances for The Gray Man, only to have their fantasy project revealed to the public and Feige confirming immediately afterward that they won’t be using the megaphone.
When asked about the status of The Kang Dynasty and/or Secret Wars in a separate interview with MTV News, Marvel’s chief creative officer emphasized that neither he nor the Russos is lying about it.
“No. We do not have a director for Secret Wars, and you will see about some of the other director announcements at some point. But no, they are not lying to you.”
Naturally, this has generated a lot of discussion among the internet public about who might be chosen, with Redditors offering up their choices as well as those they don’t want to see anywhere near it. The clowns in the pack have suggested Martin Scorsese, but there’s also a recurring “not Taika Waititi” refrain.
The most popular choices include Ryan Coogler, who is considered a fron-trunner, as well as Jon Favreau’s return to a behind-the-camera role on an MCU production, while Top Gun: Maverick‘s Joseph Kosinski, Stranger Things creators The Duffer Brothers, and John Wick‘s Chad Stahelski are frequently cited.
