It’s finally happening, guys! It’s September, which means it’s the start of the production of Todd Phillips‘ Joker origin movie. Not a lot is known for this movie, the only thing that we know is that we have a fantastic cast so far. Joaquin Phoenix will portray of the legendary villain, the Joker. Its origin story, based on The Killing Joke, created by Allan Moore, where the family man goes insane after a failed comedian career. I truly hope they stick to this concept for the movie, but of course, with a lot of creative freedom, they’re getting from the DC Dark/DC Extended Universe era.

Todd Phillips, the director behind Hangover and War Dogs, took it upon himself to take on the challenge of the Joker movie. He teased on his Instagram a picture of himself surrounded by smoke with a tagline saying ‘Here we go.’  Take a look below.

Here we go.

We immediately recognize it as the famous line at the beginning of the Dark Knight movie, where Heath Ledger started the film with this exact sentence. This alone gives me the feeling they are not playing around, and I genuinely hope they’ll pull through in bringing us a Joker origin movie we deserve.

Zazie Beetz was added to join the cast first after Joaquin Phoenix and then stars like Marc Maron, Robert DeNiro, and Bryan Callen. Recently Alec Baldwin was announced to portray Thomas Wayne in the upcoming movie, but 24 hours later he gave an interview at USA Today, and he said he pulled out of the film due to a scheduling conflict. We’re sad to see the star go, but I’m sure they have another actor ready to fill in the role of Thomas Wayne.

Are you excited that we’re getting a Joker origin movie? Let us know in the comments below.

Joker will hit the theaters on October 4, 2019.
