‘The Walking Dead’ Season 9 Synopsis, Key Art Features a Very red Rick Grimes
Behold: a gift in the form of 20 promotional images from The Walking Dead‘s ninth season!
AMC released the images and synopsis Wednesday, which include the season 9 logo and Key Art, as well as professional images of all the main characters on the show.
Here’s the synopsis:
Last season brought the culmination of “All Out War,” which pitted Rick Grimes and his group of survivors against the Saviors and their cunning leader, Negan. With Negan’s life in his hands, Rick had a character-defining choice in front of him. By making the unilateral decision to spare Negan, Rick upheld the values his late son, Carl, championed in order to build for the future, but created conflict within his group.
Now, we see our survivors a year and a half after the end of the war, rebuilding civilization under Rick’s steadfast leadership. It is a time of relative peace among the communities as they work together, looking to the past to forge the future, but the world they knew is rapidly changing as man-made structures continue to degrade, and nature takes over, changing the landscape and creating new challenges for our survivors.
As time passes, the communities confront unexpected obstacles, danger, and of course, walkers, but nothing quite prepares them for the formidable force they are about to encounter, which threatens the very idea of civilization that our survivors have worked so hard to build.
Thee Key Art is especially striking. In it, we see Rick featured and colored bright red-almost the color of blood.
We know that Rick will be leaving the show somehow, but this red silhouette of him is pretty broody and does not bode well for the season.
Behind him, we see Carol, Michonne, Daryl and Maggie all shaded in the same deep red. They are also standing on ruins. If you look closely, you can also spot a helicopter in the shadows behind them-perhaps the one we saw at the end of season 8 will play a bigger role this season.
Check out the new logo, which is primarily a mossy rock theme.
In the character photos, we see everyone standing in a forest at dusk. Eugene with his long braided hair is definitely a highlight of the group. They all seem to be standing in a similar wooded area-except Carol. She is seen standing in a field of wildflowers.
Season 9 is set to be pretty eventful. Andrew Lincoln is done filming the season, and rumors have also still been swirling about Lauren Cohan’s departure from the show. That would mean that two of the show’s main characters, Rick and Maggie, would be exiting somehow at some point in the first several episodes.
What do you think of all these Walking Dead goodies? We are excited to see images of some new characters next, including Ryan Hurst, who was recently announced as playing Beta this season!
The Walking Dead‘s ninth season will premiere October 7th on AMC!
