‘The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus and Andrew Lincoln Originally Had a Pact to Leave Together

The Walking Dead fandom is still trying to come to terms with the fact that series star Andrew Lincoln will be leaving the show in the upcoming ninth season. There’s enough heartbreak involved with losing one of the series’ most beloved characters, but could you imagine losing more than one? As it turns out, that could have been the case!

Fans of the series know that Lincoln and co-star Norman Reedus have an adorable, brotherly bond with each other. They two are always messing around, pranking each other, but at the end of the day, they are the best of friends. Chatting with Entertainment Weekly recently, Reedus revealed that originally he and Lincoln made a pact to leave the show together.

Reedus told EW:

“We made a pact. I think it was like season 3 or 4. We’re like, ‘If you leave, I leave. Right?’ And that was the thing.”

Lincoln, who was also sitting in for the EW interview immediately jumped in asking, “Are you leaving? Is this an announcement? Is this breaking news?” Luckily for fans, that’s not the case as Reedus replied with a quick, “Oh, hell no.”

Reedus continued on reminiscing about how close the two of them are and how much time they actually spend together. He said, “He was the first person I saw in the morning. As soon as we wrapped, he immediately called me in the car. We speak all the time. We spent every lunch break in my trailer. We shared a trailer for forever.”

We love this bromance so much, we’re definitely sad to see it end, but is it? Lincoln confirmed he’s leaving the series but he also seemingly left things open-ended for a possible return. At SDCC, after acknowledging his departure, he left fans with a slight sense of hope by saying, “My relationship with Rick Grimes is far from over.”

What that actually means, we’ll just have to wait and see when The Walking Dead returns to AMC with new episodes starting on October 7th.
