The moment that fans of The Walking Dead have been waiting months for has finally arrived! During AMC’s The Walking Dead Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, the very first full trailer from the series’ upcoming ninth season was revealed!
The panel was moderated by Community star and Walking Dead superfan Yvette Nicole Brown and included executive producers Gale Anne Hurd, Robert Kirkman and season nine’s new showrunner Angela Kang as well as the cast including Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Lauren Cohan and Norman Reedus.
AMC dropped a sneak peek yesterday, but the explosive first trailer gives us a more in-depth look at the time jump set to take place in season nine which was previously teased by Kang. Check out the trailer below:
The Walking Dead will undergo some serious changes in its upcoming ninth season. For one, Kang, who has been with the show for years as a Co-Executive Producer and long-time writer, was promoted to Showrunner for the ninth season. Scott Gimple (former Showrunner) will now be Chief Content Officer overseeing the entire Walking Dead franchise including both The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman recently confirmed Andrew Lincoln’s (who plays Rick Grimes) exit from the series. This is a huge change for the show, losing its main lead character, but that’s not all. It has also been reported that Lauren Cohan (who plays Maggie Greene (Rhee)) will be leaving the series before the season’s end. Cohan was recently cast in ABC’s Whiskey Cavalier which has been picked up to series during the 2018 television upfronts. Both Cohan and Lincoln are said to appear in just six episodes in the upcoming season.
The series’s premiere date was also announced during the panel. The Walking Dead will return to AMC with new episodes starting on October 7th.
