Fresh off the news that The Resident would be featuring a mini-Gilmore Girls reunion at some point during its sophomore season, the first teaser for the medical drama has dropped and things are looking a little chaotic at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital requiring “all hands on deck.”
Based on the first look, fans can expect a huge storm to be hitting the city and knocking out the power grids at the hospital, leaving Conrad (Match Czuchry), Nic (Emily VanCamp), Dr. Bell (Bruce Greenwood) and their team to resort to extremes in order to save their new and existing patients.
The short teaser also introduces new recurring guest star Jenna Dewan who is joining the series as Julian Lynn, a sharp and sophisticated medical device rep. She’s seen sharing a flirtatious look with Manish Dayal’s character Devon Pravesh. Lynn’s character synopsis reveals that she’s “a former dancer who got her life back with the help of a device, and now she’s passionate about helping others do the same. Throughout the season, Julian gradually becomes aware of the lack of transparency in her chosen field and realizes there may be dangerous issues ahead.” Check out the full trailer below:
The series was officially renewed for season two back in May after a year of growing ratings, which were averaging at about 10 million total viewers per episode.
[row]“Amy, Todd and all the producers on The Resident set out to create a medical show that viewers haven’t seen before — to peel back the curtain and reveal the truth of what happens, both good and bad, behind the scenes at hospitals across the country. Clearly, they’ve succeeded. Matt, Emily, Bruce, Manish, Shaunette, and the show’s entire cast have turned in consistently heartfelt performances, and we are so excited to go back to Chasten Memorial for another tremendous season,” said Michael Thorn, Fox Entertainment President said about the renewal.[/row]
Gilmore Girls alum Tanc Sade will be guest starring on an episode in season 2 as “Josh Robinson, a professional extreme adventure guide whose story takes a highly unexpected turn when he is treated by Dr. Hawkins.” Sade and Czuchry both appeared on Gilmore Girls and Netflix’s Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life together.

The Resident follows a young doctor who begins working under Conrad Hawkins, a tough and talented senior resident who is willing to peel back the medical curtains and expose the hospital for all of its successes and shortcomings, especially when it comes to the often-morally corrupt Dr. Bell. In addition to Matt Czuchry, Emily VanCamp, Bruce Greenwood, and Manish Dayal, the series also stars Shaunette Wilson, Merrin Dungey, Melinda Kanakaredes, and Tasso Feldman.
Catch the season 2 premiere of The Resident on Monday, September 24th on FOX!
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
