The Opening Credits for ‘American Horror Story: Cult’ May Be the Most Terrifying Yet

If you were lucky enough today, you likely witnessed two awesome things; one was the total solar eclipse which left a lot of us here at Fan Fest in a beautiful sunset like state and the other was the release of the opening credits for this season of American Horror Story.

Okay, so maybe they don’t have anything in common, but a lot of people were looking forward to both and they’re all over social media right now.

When this season’s theme of AHS was teased, fans weren’t sure what to make of it. Ryan Murphy said it would be about the election back in February, so we were all anxiously awaiting how he’d allow that to play out on-screen. Murphy doesn’t hold back at all, the series is one that goes full force into every subject it tackles and this already seems to be no different.

The credits are easily the most terrifying yet as viewers are taken into a dark and bloody place. There are clowns carrying coffins, clowns coming out of coffins, characters putting on Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton masks and a lot of blood. In addition, there are bugs, bees, and a dog that definitely didn’t survive whatever’s going on. By the looks of it, we’re not sure anyone would want to.

Back in April, while talking to EW, Murphy had this to say about what part – if any – Clinton and Trump would have in season 7.

We don’t have actors playing them. You’ll see them on television. The first 10 minutes of the season, this season, takes place in a very eerie macabre way on election night and there’s something terrible that happens in the lives of our characters on election night as they’re watching it all go down. Which in itself was a horror story, so it’s like a horror story upon a horror story.’

So far, we’re totally getting ‘purge’ vibes mixed with survival of the fittest (or at least the wealthiest and most conniving) and the awareness that the underlying fear that runs through all of us can strike at any second.

What do you think of the opening credits and what do you most hope to see play out this season? Let us know.
