Stars are Just like Us: Britney Spears and Ed O’Neill
We all have a tendency to put celebrities up on a pedestal, or to think of them as these elite beings that live in their own world. Or worse yet, you think of them as kind of like zoo animals that exist only to be pricked and prodded by the media.
But in reality, they are just like you and me.
Monday June 13, Ellen DeGeneres, to help promote Finding Dory, brought up an awkward encounter between two celebrities, it wasn’t awkward when it happened, but it sure was after the fact. I bet this is a time when short term memory loss would’ve come in handy.
The situation: Ed O’Neill was at the airport when Britney Spears rushed over to him and- well I’ll let him tell the story:
“I was in LAX. I was flying alone to Hawaii. I was waiting for my flight to board. They told me the flight was boarding, and I picked up … a little ‘Modern Family’ hat. I saw a woman approaching me, so I just flopped it on, you know, I was leaving. She came up and said, ‘Oh, Mr. O’Neill, I love “Modern Family,” and you’re my favorite on the show.’ And I was like, ‘Well, I’m here, and I’m the only one here’… [She said,] ‘Could you please … and I know you’re in a hurry,'”
At this point it was obvious she knew who he was but the story gets better. O’Neill continued.
“She couldn’t have been nicer. So I said, ‘Sure, fine, you know, okay.’ So she sat there, and we took it, and I said, ‘Have a nice trip. I’m going,’ and I left. So the next day, my manager texts me and goes, ‘What is this? 53,000 likes. It’s Britney Spears!’…No, I didn’t know it was her! I mean, look at my face: Do I look like I’m sitting with Britney Spears?”
He apparently did not recognize the pop icon. But O’Neill’ manager wasn’t the only one who called him out for his oversight
“You know, my daughter, Sophia, she said, ‘You are a moron.’” O’Neill concluded.
But things like this happen everyday, People! Britney Spears was star struck when she saw him and Ed O’Neill didn’t recognize her. He’s probably used to seeing her in all of her glitz and glamour. But aside from the mishap, it looks like Britney had a great experience.
