Star Wars head and Lucasfilm President, Kathleen Kennedy has a director lined up for a 2022 film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  The article discusses the future of the Star Wars franchise with the impending final Star Wars film, “The Rise of Skywalker”, set to release in December.

There has been much speculation and debate on how Star Wars show move forward.  The standalone films, “Rogue One” and “Solo” have had mixed reactions from fans.  However, the new Disney+ show, “The Mandalorian”, has received raving reviews.

Recently, the creative team behind “Game of Thrones” as slated to create another trilogy for the Star Wars universe but they backed out of the project.  “The Last Jedi” director, Rian Johnson, is also slated to do a Star Wars film or potential trilogy, but there has been little information regarding doing so.

“The Mandalorian” creator, Jon Favreau, may be an excellent candidate to take Star Wars into the future, as the article discusses.  Kathleen Kennedy is not seen as a creative lead and that may be the reason behind the current struggles with the franchise.  Farvreau has been at the helm of “The Jungle Book” and “The Lion King” and is all in with Disney and Lucasfilm.  This could be the perfect pairing.
