Jon Favreau to Create ‘Star Wars’ Live-Action Series For Disney

Towards the end of last year, Star Wars fans squealed with delight when an announcement was made that there would be a new incarnation of the space saga.  The new take on the classic franchise would be developed as a live-action television series and would air on Disney’s new streaming service platform which is set to launch in 2019.

On Thursday, Lucasfilm dished on some more exciting news for the Star Wars universe.  Long-time Star Wars fan and Emmy-nominated producer/actor Jon Favreau has officially signed onboard to executive produce and write the upcoming live-action series.

Favreau gushed with excitement as he told press on Thursday:

“If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy shared in Favreau’s excitement by sharing the following:

“I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform.  Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”

Favreau has previously played roles in Star Wars: The Clone Wars (animated series) and will play a role in the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story.  Additionally, he has created many successful blockbusters including Iron Man (1 and 2), The Jungle Book and the upcoming live-action remake of The Lion King.
