Ryan Murphy Shares First Look at Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott in ‘American Horror Story: Apocalypse’

The Harmon’s are back for another round of American Horror Story!

Just last week, news broke that both Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott would be returning for the upcoming eighth season of the horror anthology, but at the time, no information was released relating to the characters they would be playing. With the next season being a crossover between season one’s Murder House and season three’s Coven, it was anticipated that the actors would be reprising their season one roles, however, American Horror Story is famous for taking actors from its past seasons and casting them as newly developed characters. Theoretically, Britton and McDermott technically could be playing any role.

Over the weekend, however, creator Ryan Murphy confirmed that most fan’s speculations were correct. Both Britton and McDermott will be reprising their roles as Vivien and Ben Harmon from the first season. If you need a little refresher of where we left off with the Harmon’s, the entire family, except for their son Michael, died by the end of the first season. After being raped by Evan Peters’ character, Tate, Britton’s Vivien gave birth to a set of twins, only one of which survived. The surviving twin, Michael, was last seen in the season one finale covered in blood after just murdering his babysitter. The rest of the Harmon family was last seen spending the rest of their eternity as ghosts in the house.

Additionally, it looks like Britton and McDermott will be starring in an episode directed by American Horror Story star Sarah Paulson! Check out the photo from Murphy’s Twitter page below.

Britton also shared the news on her Instagram account. She wrote,”Harmon spin-off? Back in the #MurderHouse 7 years later…with the great @mssarahcatharinepaulson directing no less!” Check out her post below.

In addition to Britton and McDermott, many others will be returning to American Horror Story this season including series staples Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Kathy Bates. Additionally, the incomparable Jessica Lange will be returning for at least one episode reprising her season one character Constance. Taissa Farmiga, Gabourey Sidibe, Lily Rabe, Frances Conroy and the legendary Stevie Nicks will all be returning for another round of the anthology as well.

The eighth installment of the series, American Horror Story: Apocalypse, will premiere on September 12th on FX.
