Roseanne Barr Reveals How Her Character Dies on ‘The Conners’

Last month, series star John Goodman revealed that Barr’s character, Roseanne Conner, would, in fact, be killed off the show, but it wasn’t until now that fans knew just how her character would die.

Over the weekend, Barr appeared on a YouTube show called Walk Away hosted by Brandon Straka, Entertainment Weekly reports. When asked if she knew what happens to her character on the new series, she replied:

The Roseanne revival season premiered to massive ratings and critical praise, however, the show was abruptly canceled after fall out following inappropriate remarks made on Twitter by Barr. Though Barr will have no part in The Conners, the rest of the revival cast will return to reprise their roles from the original series.

In the interview, Barr continued on to explain that her revival was going to address her character’s opioid addiction, but that her character certainly was never going to die. She continued:

[row]“I wanted to show [opioid struggle] in the show, but I was never going to have Roseanne die of an opioid overdose. It’s so cynical and horrible. She should have died as a hero or not at all … It wasn’t enough to [fire me], they had to so cruelly insult the people who loved that family and that show.”[/row]

ABC has not commented on the exact circumstances surrounding Roseanne Conner’s death, however, the description for The Conners certainly points in that direction. The description of the upcoming new comedy series which reads as follows:

Through it all, the fights, the coupon cutting, the hand-me-downs, the breakdowns – with love, humor, and perseverance, the family prevails.”[/row]

In addition to Goodman (Dan), The Conners will star Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Lecy Goranson (Becky), and Michael Fishman (D.J.) all reprising their beloved character roles from the original Roseanne series.
