ABC’s newest drama series Emergence is filled with mystery, intrigue, and a stellar cast. The series is described as follows:
[row]”Beyond explanation … beyond understanding … lies the truth. This character-driven genre thriller follows a police chief who takes in a young child she finds near the site of a mysterious accident who has no memory of what has happened. The investigation draws her into a conspiracy larger than she ever imagined, and the child’s identity is at the center of it all.”[/row]
The show is only two episodes in, but has already captivated audiences around the country begging to find out the answer to the questions, “Who is Piper?”
We caught up with the series stars during New York Comic Con and talked about what it’s like filming the series and what fans can look forward to in the upcoming season.
Allison Tolman plays the lead role of Jo Evans said that the experience filming the series has been extremely enjoyable. The cast is well-bonded and thoroughly enjoys working together. She said:
[row]”We enjoy each other so genuinely and so much which is awesome. And another really fun thing is that everyone is really funny in our cast and our writers too. The kids are fun. We’re just a funny cast. We’re also very modest, which is good. It’s been a real joy to find out how these characters are funny people like Jo has a good sense of humor and so does Alex. Alex has a good sense of humor.”[/row]
For former Scrubs star Donald Faison, joining the series was about challenging himself as an actor. While he’s known for his comedic chops, Faison wanted to diversify a bit, and luckily for him, Emergence came along. He said:
[row]”This show was very different from anything I’d ever done before and it was something that I really, really, really, really wanted to do. I wanted to do something different. This just so happened to be on the table and I wanted to do this because I knew it would be different and maybe make people look at me a little bit different.”[/row]
Intertwined with character development is a burning mystery surrounding the identity of a young girl, Piper played by Alexa Swinton, found at the scene of a plane crash. It’s quickly revealed that she’s no ordinary little girl, and has mysterious powers and abilities. It’s still early in the season, but according to series star Owain Yeoman, viewers won’t have to wait too much longer to get some answers. When asked about which episode he found most exciting, he said:
[row]”Episode three is incredible! But, I’m telling you, the answers you get in episode three, you will see what I mean when I tell you that we are delivering quickly on our promises. This is not going to be a long-teased out thing. You’re going to get answers, you’re going to get critical answers, and I think that’s the success in the key of the show is this delivery of information very, very quickly.”[/row]
Emergence stars Allison Tolman as Jo Evans, Alexa Swinton as Piper, Owain Yeoman as Benny Gallagher, Ashley Aufderheide as Mia Evans, Robert Bailey Jr. as Officer Chris Minetto, Zabryna Guevara as Abby Frasier with Donald Faison as Alex Evans and Clancy Brown as Ed Sawyer.
