Laura Dern Talks ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ on ‘Ellen’ and Shares New Photo of Her Character

We didn’t get to see a sneak peek of Laura Dern’s character in action in the Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailer but, luckily for us, she stopped by to visit Ellen this week to give fans all the details on her latest role.

On Wednesday, Dern revealed a new photo of her purple-haired character Vice Admiral Holdo.  The photo is our best look yet at her character even though the first look was revealed earlier this year from Vanity Fair.  Dern looks stunning and, well, her character also looks a little stunned in the new picture.  Check it out below:

In her interview, Ellen playfully asks, “what can you tell me about Star Wars without being arrested.”  Of course, Ellen is referring to the extreme shroud of secrecy that is covering up all details related to the film.  While Dern couldn’t give specific details of the film, she did refer the film as the greatest experience of her life and that it made her feel like she was 7 years old again.

Dern adorably tells a slightly embarrassing behind-the-scenes story about when film director Rian Johnson was in the editing room working on her scenes.  Johnson said he could actually hear Dern on the recordings making “pew pew” blaster noises while her character is shooting her weapon.

Dern also took a moment to comment on what it was like to work with the late Carrie Fisher.  Dern said, “the amazing Carrie who we all knew was just the most wildly forthright and incredible, authentic being and taught us so much about that.”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi features a stellar cast including Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, Andy Serkis, Benicio Del Toro and Kelly Marie Tran in addition to Dern and Fisher.

The film will be blasting into theaters on December 15th, 2017.
