Kurt Russell Kept Mixing Up Star-Lord and ‘Star Wars’ While Filming ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is pretty much the gift that keeps on giving in the pop culture world.  The film was phenomenal.  The cast is stellar.  The soundtrack is nostalgic excellence and, now that the film is about to be available on Blu-ray and DVD this month, we are getting a first look at some behind-the-scenes footage.

Kurt Russell Kept Accidentally Calling Star-Lord “Star Wars” While Filming ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’For example, in the bonus footage, we’ve learned that Kurt Russell who plays Ego in the film had some hilarious struggles with one particular piece of dialogue.  Russell just couldn’t seem to get the hang of saying the name Star-Lord.  On more than a few takes, he referred to Peter Quill (played by Chris Pratt) as Star Wars rather than Star-Lord.

In the film’s Blu-ray bonus footage, Russell delivers his line by saying,

“Well, even where I reside out past the edge of what’s known, we’ve heard tales about the man they call Star Wars.”  Upon realizing the blunder, he follows up the line with, “We could be in trouble.”

On the second take of the scene, Russell’s intergalactic mix-up strikes again which causes everyone on set to crack up after he delivers the line:

“We’ve heard tell of the man they call Star Wars. Ugh. Yes, Star Wars. He’s all of Star Wars.  We’ve heard of the movie Star Wars.”

One small detail which makes this blooper even more hilarious than it already is would be that Russell actually did an audition for Star Wars: A New Hope back in 1976.  He auditioned to play the role of Han Solo which eventually went to Harrison Ford but, perhaps being back out in space for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Russell had “the force” on his mind.

James Gunn also recently commented on Star-Lord/Star Wars mix up via twitter calling it, “the weirdest thing.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is due out on Blu-ray August 22nd.  We can’t wait to see what other bonus features are included!    We’re so excited, we just might be doing some Baby Groot moves to celebrate!  Are you excited to own Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2?
