Joss Whedon steps in for Zack Snyder to Direct Justice League

Justice League is one of the most anticipated films of 2017 and with a debut date is November 17th, it’s premiere is quick approaching. Recently, some changes have gone on behind the scenes – specifically in terms of the director of the film, and Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon wanted to let fans know what was going on.

The Hollywood Reporter recently published an interview with Zack where he explained the reason behind him stepping down and it was heartwrenching. Zack and his family suffered a terrible loss in March of this year and directly after, the film was halted for two weeks so that they could move through the immediate aftermath of the loss and try to support one another through it.

Originally, Zack was looking forward to going back to work, but once he got there, he realized where he needed to be, and that diving headfirst into an ‘all-consuming’ job wasn’t what was best for him.

In my mind, I thought it was a cathartic thing to go back to work, to just bury myself and see if that was way through it. The demands of this job are pretty intense. It is all-consuming. And in the last two months, I’ve come to the realization …I’ve decided to take a step back from the movie to be with my family, be with my kids, who really need me. They are all having a hard time. I’m having a hard time.

The reasons for Zack Snyder stepping down are personal, and our best wishes and positive thoughts are all with him and the rest of his family. He originally was going to keep the news out of the media, but once he knew he needed to step away from the film, he wanted to give a clear reason as to why.

Toby Emmerich, Warner Brothers productive president, had this to say about the film and how Joss will uphold Zack’s vision.

The directing is minimal, and it has to adhere to the style and tone and the template that Zack set. We’re not introducing any new characters. It’s the same characters in some new scenes. He’s handing a baton to Joss, but the course has really been set by Zack. I still believe that despite this tragedy, we’ll still end up with a great movie.

We’re sure the movie will still be great as well, and even more importantly, Zack and his family will have the time they need together to heal.
